Professor Markus Wagner says incident is a tragic reflection on the current political state of affairs in the US

United States constitutional law expert Professor Markus Wagner is available for interview regarding the apparent assassination attempt of Donald Trump.

“The apparent assassination attempt at former President Trump is a tragic reflection on the current political state of affairs in the US,” Professor Wagner said.

“The profound impact on the ongoing election campaign with the Republican national convention starting next week will be compounded by the defiant imagery of the former President.

“Trump’s portrayal of strength after being shot stands as a striking contrast to the image of President Biden after his poor performance in the presidential debate.

“Trump and Biden, and political leadership on both sides, should work towards changing the tone in light of today's events.”

Professor Wagner is an internationally recognised expert in international economic law and governance, international peace and security, as well as US and Australian constitutional law. He is the Director of the Transnational Law and Policy Centre at the University of Wollongong.
