Meet Bronte Petrolo, UOWx & Co-Curricular Programs Lead

Bronte Petrolo is the UOWx & Co-Curricular Programs Lead and oversees a variety of programs and activities that allow students to enrich their university experience beyond the classroom.

What student service do you offer to our students?

The student service I assist in offering to students is UOWx,  a co-curricular recognition service at the University of Wollongong. UOWx champions the value of learning beyond the classroom, and thus students receive formal recognition for their co-curricular involvement throughout their studies at UOW.

What are the advantages of joining programs in UOWx?

There are many advantages of participating in UOWx recognised programs, including the opportunity to network and make friends, enhance your employability, and expand your resume, stand out from the crowd, give back to your local community, learn or improve on skills, be a part of something that extends beyond your academic coursework and achieve key milestones/awards.

How can students be eligible for UOWx Award programs and showcase the skills they gained throughout co-curricular activities?

To be eligible for the UOWx Award program, students must have achieved 2 x Learning Stream Awards. The UOWx Award program is an 8-9 weeks program whereby students must satisfactorily complete the requirements of the program to receive the UOWx Award upon graduation. Throughout the UOWx Award program, students are given the opportunity to reflect on their experience and the skills developed throughout their co-curricular journey at UOW and are assisted in understanding how to articulate and showcase this when applying for jobs.

What steps do you recommend students to take to prepare themselves before seeking your assistance?

Students should check out UOWx website and use the Find An Activity page to explore opportunities with UOWx to get involved in.
