iPREP Biodesign: Connecting PhD Researchers to Industry

Closing date: Wednesday, 24 July 2024

The iPREP Biodesign program is a newly established initiative between iPREPWA and Perth Biodesign. The program networks across the Graduate Research Schools of The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame Australia, Macquarie University, CQUniversity Australia, University of Wollongong Australia and Western Sydney University.

It has been developed to help bridge the 'industry-research divide' by linking the abilities of Australian Higher Degree by Research students to the development needs of progressive organisations. The program aims to grow Australian industries by harnessing research excellence and to provide students with paid industry placements to gain a competitive advantage across a broad range of future career paths.

iPREP Biodesign is the only program in Australia with the unique attribute of assigning multidisciplinary teams of PhD students to work on industry-defined problems while providing weekly design thinking and professional skills training alongside placements.

Projects are defined by the organisation and can span over a 7 week or 3 month period. The program offers a flexible participation mode (in-person, remote or combination) for both students and industry partners.

Full-time participation is preferred, however part-time arrangements may be negotiated depending on project requirements and university approval.

Projects may include new research, proof-of-concept activities or tasks progressing commercial outputs. Students should not undertake day-today commercial activities but focus on a short-term research project related to their area of expertise.

All Intellectual Property created during the project is retained by the organisation and creation of nondisclosure agreements is supported.
