International Postgraduate Tuition Awards (IPTAs) are awarded to cover international HDR students' tuition fees in certain circumstances.
IPTAs can be offered in three different circumstances:
- Full Course IPTA;
- Final Session IPTA; and
- Financial Hardship IPTA.
Full Course IPTA:
International students who are awarded a stipend scholarship (equivalent to the value of the current UPA stipend) will also be offered a Full Course IPTA to cover their tuition up to 4.0 EFTSL for Doctoral degrees and 2.0 EFTSL for Master of Philosophy degrees.
Final Session IPTA:
Available to international students seeking a final session IPTA in order to complete their thesis. A Final Session IPTA also applies to international students who have accrued an EFTSL (Equivalent Full Time Study Load) of >4.0 for doctoral degrees and >2.0 for Master of Philosophy degrees which classifies them as overtime in their studies.
Students should consult their supervisor regarding a final session IPTA and provide evidence that they are near completion of their thesis. If the supervisor supports the claim, s/he will need to submit an application to the Graduate Research School on, or prior to, the due date for the relevant session.
Financial Hardship IPTA:
Available to international students seeking an IPTA for one session due to financial hardship. Students should consult their supervisor regarding a financial hardship IPTA and provide full details of the financial circumstances which make them unable to pay fees. If the supervisor supports the claim, s/he will need to submit an application to the Graduate Research School on, or prior to, the due date for the relevant session.
