An opportunity is available for a PhD candidate to undertake research focused on improving alcohol and other drug treatment in Australia

UOW is offering a Domestic PhD scholarship that will be completed within the School of Psychology. The project will be conducted as part of Meaningful Outcomes focused on improving substance use treatment. The scholarship would need to start by the end of January 2025.

The PhD project will focus on understanding the experience of people accessing alcohol and other drug treatment within Australia. You will be working closely with alcohol and other drug treatment services located across Australia (NSW, Vic, QLD), peak bodies, and a range of academics associated with Meaningful Outcomes.

Scholarship amount

Successful candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $35,522 p.a. for the duration of 3.5 years indexed annually.

Duration

Maximum duration of the scholarship is 3.5 years full-time.

Eligibility requirements

Completed a Bachelor’s degree and honours in psychology, health sciences, public health or related field.

  • Experience in conducting research, including quantitative and/or qualitative approaches.
  • The ability to take initiative, be pro-active, and constructively respond to change,
  • Demonstrated collegiality and ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
  • Previous clinical or lived experience in the field would be highly valued.
