Project Title: Video-Rate Imaging of Single Molecule Protein Adsorption & Dynamics on Material Surfaces and Coatings.
Project Description: 2 x PhD scholarships are available for a highly motivated, passionate and competitive candidates to undertake multidisciplinary projects that support the Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship of Professor Michael Higgins in collaboration with other researchers and programs within the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials (AIIM) at the University of Wollongong (UOW).
The projects will aim to advance our understanding of biomolecular interactions at artificial surfaces used in applications, including blood contact devices, biomedical implants, antimicrobial/antifouling coatings. There will be an opportunity to gain experience in materials development, advanced characterization and microscopy (high-speed atomic force microscopy), computer modelling and software development for video analysis.
Scholarship Value: The successful candidate will receive full-time stipend of $28,854 pa (tax-free) for the duration of the award. The duration of the award shall before 3.5 years.
Entry Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must
- Have completed a Bachelor/Master’s degree in the Biological Sciences, Biophysics, Nanobiotechnology, Chemistry Science, Materials Science, or a related discipline with a competitive academic grade level.
- Be able to commence full-time higher degree by research by August 2022
- Be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents
