Discovery Projects
The Discovery Projects scheme objectives are to:
- support excellent pure basic, strategic basic and applied research, and research training, across all disciplines excluding clinical and other medical research, that addresses a significant problem or gap in knowledge and represents value for money;
- expand research capacity in Australia by supporting excellent researchers and teams;
- foster national and international research collaboration;
- create new knowledge with economic, commercial, environmental, social and/or cultural benefits for Australia; and
- enhance the scale and focus of research in Australian Government priority areas.

The Discovery Projects scheme has a two-stage application process, commencing with an Expression of Interest (EOI). Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full application.

Discovery Early Career Researcher Award
The Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme is a separate element of the Discovery Program. The DECRA scheme provides more focused support for researchers and creates more opportunities for early-career researchers in both teaching and research, and research-only positions.
The objectives of the DECRA scheme are to:
- Support excellent basic and applied research by early career researchers
- Advance promising early career researchers and promote enhanced opportunities for diverse career pathways
- Enable research and research training in high quality and supportive environments
- Expand Australia’s knowledge base and research capability
- Enhance the scale and focus of research in the Science and Research Priorities

Future Fellowships
The Future Fellowships scheme supports research in areas of critical national importance by giving outstanding researchers incentives to conduct their research in Australia. The aim of the Future Fellowships scheme is to attract and retain the best and brightest mid-career researchers.
The objectives of the Future Fellowships scheme are to:
- Ensure that outstanding mid-career researchers are recruited and retained by Administering Organisations in continuing academic positions
- Build collaboration across industry and/or research organisations and/or disciplines
- Support research in Science and Research Priorities that will result in economic, environmental, social and/or cultural benefits for Australia
- Strengthen Australia’s research capacity by supporting innovative, internationally competitive research.

Australian Research Council (ARC) Industry Fellowships
Early Career Industry Fellowships
The Early Career Industry Fellowships scheme creates a pathway to support academic researchers in establishing careers in industry, and industry-based researchers to work in university settings, with the aim of increased two-way mobility and skill-building in research collaboration, translation and commercialisation.
Up to 50 Early Career Industry Fellowships may be awarded each year providing salary contribution for up to 3 years and project costs up to $150,000.

Mid-Career Industry Fellowships
The Mid-Career Industry Fellowships scheme creates a pathway to support academic researchers in establishing careers in industry, and industry-based researchers to work in university settings, with the aim of increased two-way mobility and skill-building in research collaboration, translation and commercialisation.
Up to 25 Mid-Career Industry Fellowships may be awarded each year providing salary contribution for up to 4 years and project costs up to $290,000.

Industry Laureate Fellowships
The Industry Laureate Fellowships scheme creates a pathway to support academic researchers in establishing careers in industry, and industry-based researchers to work in university settings, with the aim of increased two-way mobility and skill-building in research collaboration, translation and commercialisation.
Up to 8 Industry Laureate Fellowships may be awarded each year providing salary contribution for up to 5 years and project costs up to $1,500,000.

Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment & Facilities
The Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme provides funding to eligible organisations for research infrastructure, equipment and facilities.
Under this scheme researchers participate in cooperative initiatives so that expensive research infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared between higher education organisations and industry.
The scheme fosters collaboration through its support of the cooperative use of international or national research facilities.
Applicants may seek funding for:
- infrastructure, equipment and facility purchases, construction and installation
- salaries directly associated with creating and installing infrastructure, equipment or facilities
- leasing of infrastructure, equipment or facilities
- consortium membership costs, in the case of Australia's participation in the use of significant international-scale or national research facilities
- specialised computing facilities and software compilations, catalogues, clearing houses or bibliographies.

Discovery Indigenous
Discovery Indigenous scheme provides funding to Administering Organisations to support research programs led by an Indigenous Australian researcher and build research capacity of higher degree research and early career researchers. Grants from the ARC are made to organisations, not individual researchers or research teams.
The objectives of the Discovery Indigenous scheme are to:
- Support excellent basic and applied research and research training by Indigenous researchers as individuals and as teams
- Develop the research expertise of Indigenous researchers
- Support and retain established Indigenous researchers in Australian higher education institutions
- Expand Australia’s knowledge base and research capability

ARC Centres of Excellence are focal points of expertise through which high-quality researchers maintain and develop Australia’s international standing in research areas of national priority.
Through the ARC Centres of Excellence, significant collaborations occur between universities, publicly funded research organisations, other research bodies, governments, and businesses in Australia and overseas, all to support outstanding research.
The objectives for the ARC Centres of Excellence are to:
- undertake innovative and potentially transformational research
- link existing Australian research strengths to address the most challenging and significant research problems
- develop relationships and build new networks with major national and international centres and research programs
- build Australia’s human capacity in a range of research areas
- provide high-quality postgraduate and postdoctoral training environments

Australian Laureate Fellowships
The Australian Laureate Fellowships scheme reflects the Commonwealth’s commitment to excellence in research by supporting world-class researchers to conduct research in Australia.
The scheme encourages applications from the highest-quality researchers by providing eligible Australian Laureate Fellows with project funding in addition to salary and salary-related (on-cost) support.
The objectives of the Australian Laureate Fellowships scheme are to:
