First-year students enrolled in science, medicine, and health undergraduate degrees who are required to undertake chemistry will need to choose between 2 streams based on their prior study of chemistry in the HSC or an equivalent qualification.
Which chemistry option do I need to take?
Enrolment in the appropriate first-year chemistry subjects is guided by the following criteria:

- Spring session: CHEM102 Chemistry 1B: Structure and Reactivity of Molecules of Life
Stream 2
Students who did not complete Chemistry in the High School Certificate (or equivalent)
or
Students who did complete chemistry with a mark less than 65%, will need to enrol into:
- Autumn session: CHEM104 Foundation Chemistry: Properties of Matter
- Spring session: CHEM105 Foundation Chemistry: Reactions and Structures
Please note:
- all subjects run once per year in the session indicated above.
- each Autumn Session subject is a pre-requisite to continue into the relevant Spring subject and MUST be successfully completed, prior to commencing the Spring Session subject. Your Spring subject enrolment will be marked as provisional until you meet the pre-requisite.
