ASSH308: International Cultural Immersion – Tamil Nadu, India
Do you want to learn about social change and development in India through study and a field visit, where you will gain insights from local experts and NGOs?
Trip Details:
- Duration: 21 days
- Dates: Late January through early February 2025 with additional pre and post-trip activities
- Funding: Partially funded by NCP grants ($3500). Additional funds for lunches, dinners, and personal costs at students’ expense.
- Availability: 15 spots
Application process: Complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) by Sunday, 3 November 2024.

Completion of this immersion experience will be linked to a Summer Session elective subject (6cp).
During a two-day intensive in Wollongong, you will learn the basics of Indian history, politics, society and economy.
During the three weeks in Tamil Nadu, you will:
- Meet with local social work students;
- Get training from a number of Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) working on social justice, gender empowerment and human rights
- Learn about India’s complex history and colonial experiences
- And more.
