Students undertaking a semester exchange or international short course are eligible to apply for a UOW travel grant and available faculty travel grants to help fund their overseas experience.
UOW travel grants
All exchange and short course students are eligible to apply for a UOW travel grant. As a condition of receiving a UOW travel grant, all students must meet the UOW travel grant requirements.
Semester Exchange travel grants
Each student undertaking a semester exchange may be eligible to receive a $1,000 UOW travel grant from the Office of Global Student Mobility (OGSM). To be considered, students must submit their online application by the relevant deadline.
Short Course travel grants
Each student undertaking a short course program may be eligible to receive a $500 UOW short course travel grant. To be considered, students must submit their online application by the below dates:
- Winter programs: 15th April
- Summer programs: 15th September
Travel grant payments
Semester Exchange
Payment of your $1,000 travel grant will be made into your nominated bank account upon your arrival at your host institution, conditional upon you meeting the following requirements:
- You must be formally accepted by your host institution;
- You much achieve satisfactory results in the current session at the University of Wollongong and meet all other program obligations, including attending all pre-departure meetings, in accordance with the International exchange terms and conditions;
- You must confirm that you have arrived at the University by uploading the UOW Confirmation of Enrolment form into your Student Mobility Online portal.
Short Course
Payment of your $500 short course travel grant will be made into your nominated bank account approximately two weeks prior to the start date of your program, conditional upon the fulfillment of all application requirements.
UOW travel grant requirements
Students wishing to receive a UOW travel grant must commit to do the following:
- Do a minimum of 4 hours of promotional volunteering upon return to UOW at events such as the Exchange Fair, Pre Departure events, targeted information sessions, orientation events, open days and discovery days; and
- Partake in a promotional event or activity whose purpose is to promote UOW at their host university if required.
AND either of the following:
- Submit a minimum of 20 high resolution photos of your exchange experience that can be used for promotional purposes by UOW (photos must be delivered to OGSM via Dropbox and must be a minimum resolution of 3000 x 2000 megapixels); OR
- Create a 3-5 min video of your exchange experience for use by UOW for promotional purposes. The video should include a range of content, including your host university, the city you are living in and travel and other experiences (videos can be provided to OGSM via YouTube or file sharing platforms such as Google Drive or Dropbox).
Payment of your travel grant will be made into your nominated bank account upon your arrival at you host institution, conditional upon you meeting the following requirements -
- You must be formally accepted by your host institution;
- You much achieve satisfactory results in the current session at the University of Wollongong and meet all other program obligations, including attending all pre-departure meetings, in accordance with Section 10 (Authorisation Statement) of the International Exchange Program application;
- You must confirm that you have arrived at the University by returning the UOW Confirmation of Enrolment form.
