Short courses and internships

Looking for a shorter international experience?

Short Course programs provide students with the opportunity to study or intern overseas for a shorter period of time – usually 2-8 weeks held during UOW winter (June - September) or summer (November - February) sessions*.

There are no UOW deadlines for short course applications unless a student wishes to be considered for a UOW travel grant. To apply for a UOW travel grant, students must submit their application by the below dates:

  • Winter programs: 15th April
  • Summer programs: 15th September

Check out some of the amazing opportunities below.

*Please note that not all short course opportunities abroad are run in the UOW semester breaks. It is your responsibility to confirm the session dates and ensure that the dates do not overlap with UOW session or exam dates.

Types of programs

A number of UOW’s exchange partner institutions offer short courses/internships over summer or winter. Short courses at UOW partner institutions are not ‘exchanges’, as students are required to pay fees directly to the host university for the program.

UOW has formal agreements with several external organisations who provide internship and short course opportunities overseas. Third party partners offer a diverse range of study overseas programs all over the world, providing you with the opportunity to experience new cultures, develop critical employability skills and prepare for a global future.

The below partners have been chosen by UOW specifically for the quality and variety of overseas programs they offer. Located in some of the most incredible places around the globe, you can travel overseas during UOW's official holiday periods and seek credit towards your UOW degree.

We strongly advise students undertake short terms programs from the below providers, or programs offered at UOW partner universities. Students must always consult with their faculty on seeking credit approval for any programs undertaken overseas.

Several UOW subjects involve a compulsory overseas component – often a study tour where the whole class travels overseas together. In these cases, students enrol directly in a UOW subject, pay subject fees directly to UOW, and are guided through the short course application process by their UOW subject coordinator/s.

Enquiries about these programs and subjects should be directed to your relevant Faculty.
