You can also access academic skills advice and consultations at UOW Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Southern Highlands, Sutherland and Sydney CBD campuses. Log in to the Student Success Portal to book a consultation or for further information, please email student-success@uow.edu.au.

Peer Learning Coaches are senior students who work collaboratively with you to achieve your study goals. Using their experience as a student, our Peer Learning Coaches are trained to support you with: 

  • Time management and organisational skills 
  • Study and assessment planning 
  • Adjusting to university life and study expectations 
  • Navigating university systems and physical spaces 
  • Motivation and positive study habits. 

Your Peer Learning Coach will work with you in your first coaching session to set goals and will follow up with you with ongoing coaching sessions to keep you on track. 
 
Peer Learning Coaching sessions can be held face-to-face or online. Coaching sessions can be conducted on an individual basis, or you are welcome to bring along some friends for a group coaching session. 

How to book a consultation

  1. Access the Student Success Portal
    If it’s your first time using the portal, you’ll need to set up your account
  2. Join the Peer Learning Coaching program
  3. Click 'Learning Coaches'
  4. Select a Learning Coach and click 'Message'
    For a face-to-face consultation, select a Peer Learning Coach on your campus
  5. Click 'Request session' in the top right corner
  6. The Peer Learning Coach will respond to your request as soon as possible

Our Learning Skills Advisors are committed to working with you to reach your study goals and are available to meet with you one-to-one, or in a small group session (if you want to bring some other students along!). Advisors can provide advice on: 

  • Understanding what is required in an assessment task 
  • Referencing 
  • Writing and structuring essays, reports and other assessments 
  • Critical reading and thinking 
  • Research skills 
  • Academic integrity 
  • English language and writing 

HDR Academic support

Our HDR Academic Support Advisor can offer guidance and support on your graduate journey.

Individual consultations are available face-to-face or online. 

How to book a consultation

Consultations with a Learning Skills Advisor will typically run for about 45 minutes, and can either be face-to-face or online. 

  1. Access the Student Success Portal
    If it’s your first time using the portal, you’ll need to setup your account
  2. Join the Learning Skills Support program
  3. Click 'Advisors'
  4. Select an Advisor and click 'Message'
    For a face-to-face consultation, select an Advisor on your campus
  5. Click 'Request session' in the top right corner
  6. The Advisor will respond to your request as soon as possible

We understand that maths can sometimes be a bit daunting. You may not have studied maths at high school or perhaps you are stretching your maths knowledge and skills in higher level subjects at university. Our Maths Skills Advisors are committed to working with you to build your confidence and capabilities to study maths at university. 

Our team can provide support in: 

  • Foundational level maths, particularly for students studying Education, Engineering, Business, Nursing and similar degrees. 
  • Statistics support for students studying in degrees such as Business and Psychology. 
  • Higher level maths skills support.
