Commencing students are invited to Learning and Maths Skills workshops during Orientation week (Monday, 15 July - Friday, 19 July, 2024).
Topics covered include understanding assignments, reading and research strategies, note-taking, group work skills, academic writing, exam preparation, referencing and maths including introductory algebra, equations, and spreadsheet calculus.

Ready, Set, Succeed are a series of workshops that are run before university starts, designed to give you a head start at university.

You can sign up to these workshops as part of your orientation registration.
During the study recess weeks, the Academic Skills Centre will be holding Super Study sessions facilitated by the Learning Skills, Maths Skills, and Peer Learning Coach teams. Drop by for support finalising your written assessments, developing study strategies for exams, and revising maths-related content.*

About the workshops
Ace your first-year nursing assessments with this course-aligned workshop. These First-Year Nursing Workshops are tailored to student assessments and aim at teaching students the academic skills required to succeed in the first year of their nursing degree. These workshops will assist with the following skills:

Week 2: Reflective writing for SNUG106 Assessment - part 1
How to write a reflective essay: from personal beliefs to professional practice SNUG106.
Week 3: Researching and referencing for SNUG assessment tasks
Build your research skills using databases and learn how to reference in APA7 style for SNUG106 and SNUG113.
Week 4: Presentation skills and group work for SNUG113 and SNUG106 assessment - part 1
Learn effective ways to structure your script through PowerPoint slides, and how to present your ideas orally to deliver a compelling presentation.
Week 6: Essay structure, effective paragraphs and cohesive writing in SNUG106 and SNUG113 assessments
Understand the importance of structure when writing an essay and how to communicate effectively in your paragraphs. Learn about transition signals and how to integrate evidence effectively in your paragraphs.
Week 7: Reflective writing for SNUG106 assessment: reflective vs recounting - part 2
Learn the difference between reflecting and recounting and dive into reflecting on feedback.
Week 9: Presentation skills and group work for SNUG113 and SNUG106 assessments - part 2
This workshop is about effective group work skills and working on your video assessment for SNUG106 and presentation for SNUG113.
