NSW consent law changes

The University welcomes new affirmative consent laws which came into effect in NSW from Wednesday 1 June 2022.

The new laws are part of a historic legislative reform for the state, and mean that now a person does not consent to sexual activity unless they do something or say something indicating consent.

UOW is also taking action to further address the harmful attitudes that continue to contribute to non-consensual sexual activity.

In response to student feedback, UOW has made the Consent Matters Module mandatory for all students.
