How is this program run?
This program is running face-to-face.
What will I do?
As an Early Start volunteer, you will engage playfully with children, their adults and community during their visit to Early Start (including the Discovery Space), and encourage their participation in the experiences and Programs on offer. The experience of a volunteer can be diverse – including supporting Early Start events.
How will I benefit?
You will benefit by:
- Gaining valuable experience in education, communication and engagement of children
- Being creative, having fun and working with a supportive team of like-minded staff and volunteers
- Contributing to the Early Start vision to ensure positive development of children and their adults within communities and surrounding systems
- Working alongside academic (research) staff and professional staff with diverse, multi-disciplinary expertise
How do I apply?

Are there any special requirements for this role?
Yes, you must be willing to undertake a Working with Children check. This is free for all volunteers. You must also undertake training and a formal induction to the space.
Minimum requirements for UOWx recognition
To receive UOWx recognition, you must complete the following:
- An "engaged" student will need to complete a minimum of 20 hours within a calendar year
- A "highly engaged" student will need to complete a minimum of 50 hours within a calendar year
