What will I do?

The UOW College Peer Mentor role aims to foster an environment of holistic growth and academic success by providing personalised support, guidance, and mentorship to students at the College. Through student mentoring, we aim to empower individuals to realise their full potential, cultivate essential skills for personal and professional development, and navigate the challenges of higher education with confidence and resilience.


How will I benefit?

As a UOW College Peer Mentor, you will:

  • Develop valuable interpersonal skills such as active listening, empathy, and effective communication.
  • Demonstrate to potential employers or academic institutions a commitment to personal development, leadership, and community engagement.
  • Connect with many individuals, including fellow mentors, mentees, and staff. This expands the mentor's network, potentially opening doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and friendships.

How do I apply?

UOW College Peer Mentor roles are advertised at various points throughout the year. Student can register their Expression of Interest by emailing uowcollege-studentsupport@uow.edu.au.


Are there any special requirements for this role?

To be eligible to become a UOW College Peer Mentor, the applicant must:

  • Be a current student at the College
  • Complete one session of their College course
  • Have achieved a WAM of credit or higher average mark
  • Attend the Mentor Training Session, and;
  • Committed to the duration of the program

Minimum requirements for UOWx recognition

To receive UOWx Recognition, you must complete the following:

  • An ‘engaged’ student will need to complete a minimum 40 hours in a calendar year
  • A ‘highly engaged’ student will need to complete 60 hours in a calendar year
