How is this program run?

This program commences in 2025 and will be running online and in-person.


What will I do?

Within this program, students will contribute tax assistance to members of the community experiencing financial, personal and/or social hardship. Students will engage with clients (members of the community) and support them with tax advice and assistance, under the supervision of a trained tax practitioner. Students will also help the financial/accounting/tax literacy of underrepresented members of the community.


How will I benefit?

In this program, you will develop:

  • Apply accounting and taxation principles learned in the study of accounting to real-world situations within a professional practice environment.
  • Demonstrate the use of effective communication in an accounting work environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse roles played by accountants in the workplace.
  • Critically evaluate contemporary issues in accounting practice
  • Assist and support underrepresented members of the community.

How do I apply?

Students can enrol in ACCY300 and/or ACCY228 or ACCY963 to be involved. Students can reach out to tax-clinic@uow.edu.au to express interest.


Are there any special requirements for this role?

Prior accounting knowledge - i.e. prerequisites of ACCY228 or 48 credit points.


Minimum requirements for UOWx recognition

To receive UOWx Recognition, you must complete the following:

  • An ‘engaged’ student will need to attend 5 sessions in a calendar year
  • A ‘highly engaged’ student will need to attend 10 sessions in a calendar year
