If you’re planning to study at UOW immediately after finishing your HSC, International Baccalaureate (IB), or an interstate equivalent, you can apply for Early Admission to this course. Applications can be submitted via the UOW Early Admission website during the designated period, usually June – August each year.

Students can also apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

If you’re a non-school leaver (e.g., completed Year 12 previously and/or have a TAFE qualification or equivalent), you can apply directly to UOW.

International students are encouraged to apply with the support of an approved UOW agent. An agent can help navigate the application process and ensure that you submit all necessary documentation. For your nearest agent, please see our agent list.

Overview

A Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is a three-year degree that equips you with a comprehensive legal education: a world-class degree that provides a thorough grounding in the law, as well as a real-world focus on the essential practical skills and the social and ethical context in which the law operates.

The UOW Law First Year Program provides all first-year students with the support of a First Year Coordinator and the POD (small group) experience, in which students remain in the same tutorial group across all four first semester subjects.

We believe that practical experience is a vital part of your legal training and are the only law school in New South Wales that requires you to complete a legal internship.

We are committed to social justice and providing a legal education which engages with the complexities of law's intersection with society. The Bachelor of Laws at UOW covers all the core law areas and includes cutting-edge electives in sustainability, artificial intelligence and international law.

The Honours year offers both an in-depth project at the end of undergraduate study, and a bridge between undergraduate study, advanced research and employment opportunities.

Studying honours gives you:

  • an advantage in the legal graduate employment market
  • training in research skills and information systems
  • the ability to conceptualise challenging legal concepts and communicate complex ideas
  • the opportunity to work closely with a supervisor and prepare a major project to meet critical deadlines
  • experience in devising, researching and writing up an individual topic of study of your choice, in an extended format.

Applicants must achieve the required score in a previous qualification, equivalent to completing at least 13 years of schooling in Australia.

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.
