If you’re planning to study at UOW immediately after finishing your HSC, International Baccalaureate (IB), or an interstate equivalent, you can apply for Early Admission to this course. Applications can be submitted via the UOW Early Admission website during the designated period, usually June – August each year.

Students can also apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

If you’re a non-school leaver (e.g., completed Year 12 previously and/or have a TAFE qualification or equivalent), you can apply directly to UOW.

The law is centred around people so comprehending issues that influence their behaviour is a valuable asset for any lawyer. For those pursuing a career in psychology, having a comprehensive understanding of law not only benefits clients, but opens up a range of career opportunities.

Throughout the Bachelor of Psychological Science, you will gain comprehensive, foundational knowledge in the processes basic to human psychological functioning. This degree alone will not qualify you to be a practicing psychologist, rather it is the first stage of qualification required.

The Bachelor of Laws equips you with a comprehensive legal education. This world-class degree provides you with a thorough grounding in the law, the social and ethical context in which law operates, while equipping you with essential practical skills including an internship and integrated skills program.

Careers

Psychology and Law are intrinsically related, with one studying human behaviour and the other attempting to regulate it. Psychological research also has significant impact on the law, investigating areas such as witness misidentification, interrogation techniques of law enforcement, and false confessions. Interpersonal skills in identifying client goals, negotiation and mediation, and an empathetic understanding with a client are cornerstones of both psychology and law, making this degree an advantageous combination.

Accreditation & professional recognition

By completing your law degree at UOW, you are completing an academic qualification that is recognised for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Further details for NSW admissions can be found at the Legal Profession Admission Board website.

The UOW Bachelor of Laws is accredited by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. Students from India and Bangladesh are encouraged to apply. Graduates can be accredited to practice as a barrister or solicitor upon returning home, subject to the completion of any required bridging course.

Completion of four years in Psychology is an important step for registration as a psychologist in Australia. The Bachelor of Psychological Science is accredited as the first three years of study. To complete the four years, students must complete an Honours year to meet the academic requirements for eligibility for provisional registration as a psychologist. An additional two years of education and training is necessary to apply for general registration. This can be through a fifth year at University plus one year of supervised practice in the community or an approved postgraduate degree accredited at the fifth and sixth year level.     Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.
