Overview

The Diploma of Arts, Social Science and Humanities provides guaranteed* entry into the second year of a range of degrees in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Wollongong (UOW).  

You will gain the skills to succeed in your UOW bachelor and explore various disciplines, including human geography, public health, linguistics, history and international relations. You will graduate with a Higher Education Diploma to help get you into the workforce while completing your bachelor's degree.

This course consists of three sessions, each lasting 14 weeks, and is offered by our pathway provider, UOW College Australia. See the course outline for more information.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will gain entry into the following UOW courses:

Bachelor of Arts (all specialisations excluding Bachelor of Arts Psychology see UEP – Stream 1) - entry into second year (8 subjects, 48 credit points)

Bachelor of Social Science (all specialisations) - entry into second year  (8 subjects, 48 credit points)

Bachelor of International Studies (all specialisations) - entry into first year with 24 credit points (equivalent to 4 subjects or 1 session of full time study)

Bachelor of Psychological Science - Bachelor of Social Science - entry into first year, 1 session (3 subjects, 18 credit points)

Bachelor of Social Work* - entry into first year, 1 session (2 subjects, 12 credit points)

Bachelor of Creative Arts – entry into first year (4 subjects, 24 unspecified credit points)

Bachelor of Communications and Media – entry into first year (3 subjects, 18 unspecified credit points)

Admissions information

  • Recent Secondary Education

    Minimum ATAR 30; or

    4 HSC Subjects ≥65%; or

    3 HSC Subjects ≥70%; or

    Applicants who completed Year 12, or left school, more than 2 years ago (either with or without an ATAR or HSC) will be required to undertake a basic literacy online test to determine eligibility for this course.

  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) study

    You may be considered for admission to this course if you have completed a vocational education and training (VET) qualification, such as a Certificate IV. You will need to provide evidence of your qualification, which will then be converted to a selection rank and assessed to determine if you meet the minimum entry requirements.

  • Work and life experience

    If you have not completed a recognised qualification or your ATAR (or equivalent) does not meet the entry requirements for your selected course, UOW College may consider your relevant work and life experience. Applications for entry into a course on these grounds are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

    UOW College encourages course applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and may offer additional support through the Aunty Linda Cruse Scholarship.

    While studying at UOW College, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will also have access to support and resources through the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre.

  • Workload

    As a guide, the workload for your course is determined by the number of subjects you take each session. Four subjects in a standard session is considered to be a full-time load and generally equivalent to working full-time e.g. 35-45 hours a week (including preparation, revision and assessment tasks undertaken in your own time, in addition to the scheduled classes you must attend).

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    If you have undertaken previous studies at UOW College or another Higher Education provider, you may be eligible to receive credit (towards your course) for your prior learning. Credit for prior learning requires an assessment of your past learning for equivalency with subjects delivered in your chosen course.
