Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Business is for those who want to advance their career, formalise their industry experience or up-skill and move into a business-focused role within their field. This course covers key business areas including accounting, financial management, organisational behaviour and marketing management.

The Graduate Certificate in Business caters for both professional and lifestyle commitments by giving students the choice to study on campus at Wollongong or Sydney CBD, or online. Students who select to study online can choose from two delivery modes:

  • Distance delivery refers to learning activities that do not require you to attend campus, but instead allow you to join pre-scheduled virtual classes.
  • Online delivery refers to virtual study at your own pace with academic support.

Students undertaking the program have access to a full suite of support services including:

  • Access to dedicated course director.
  • Extensive online library resources, including business journals, electronic books and business databases.
  • Career and job-seeking assistance, including a specialist careers consultant who is accessible for up to two years after you graduate.
  • Student counsellor.

Graduates can progress to a range of master’s programs offered by Sydney Business School, UOW and may be granted up to four subjects's credit towards the master’s degree.

Fee subsidised places available

UOW is offering Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) for all of our postgraduate coursework degrees in 2025. This means the Australian government will subsidise your tuition fees by up to 75%. To be eligible for this fee subsidy, you must meet the following criteria: Be a domestic student, i.e. an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or a permanent Australian Humanitarian visa holder.

Admissions information

A recognised bachelor’s or master’s degree with an equivalent average mark of 50%, or
a tertiary academic qualification with a duration of at least three years’ full-time equivalent with an equivalent average mark of 50%, or
three years’ full-time equivalent managerial or professional work experience.

The faculty will consider applicants with seven years’ full-time equivalent general work experience on a case-by-case basis.

    UOW College: English for Tertiary Studies: Pass (weighted average mark of 50 overall and minimum 50 in Academic Reading and Writing)

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Business, students may enrol in a Master's program offered by Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong. Students will be granted credit for four subjects in the following degrees:

     

      • Master of Business

     

      • Master of Business Analytics

     

      • Master of Financial Management

     

      • Master of Human Resource Management

     

      • Master of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

     

      • Master of International Business

     

      • Master of Management

     

      • Master of Marketing

     

      • Master of Supply Chain Management

     

    • Master of Project Management

     

    If you wish to use this Graduate Certificate as a pathway into the Master of Supply Chain Management, please note that the Master of Supply Chain Management at UOW is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). To achieve the accelerated MCIPS grade of membership with CIPS, it is a condition of our accreditation to complete the Master of Supply Chain Management in its entirety, without any credit exemptions either in recognition of previous studies within or outside of UOW. Accepting credit transfer will not impact your eligibility to be conferred the degree upon successful completion of remaining subjects as per your course handbook.

    Progression to other Masters programs, including the MBA, may also be possible with some credit including 12 credit points towards the MBA.

    If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.

    Credit for prior learning evaluates your previous study or work experience related to your chosen subjects.
