Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Education is designed for educators seeking a short, flexible degree that can be tailored to their needs and interests. The course suits graduates and professionals who are looking to diversify or change their career direction in fields such as staff training and development, or policy and planning.

This course has one core subject and three electives of your choice from our Master of Education specialisations, including educational leadership, digital technologies for learning, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

You will have the opportunity to progress into the Master of Education if you are interested in further study.

Admissions information

A recognised bachelor’s degree in education or teaching, and one of the following:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in any field; or
  • Professional experience equivalent to one year full-time in an educational field considered by the School to be appropriate to the program of study.

OR

A recognised bachelor’s degree in any field, and one of the following:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in education or teaching; or
  • Professional experience equivalent to two years full-time in an educational field considered by the School to be appropriate to the program of study.

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    On successful completion of this degree, students can articulate into the UOW Master of Education, and receive credit for the 4 subjects completed within the Graduate Certificate.

    If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.

    Credit for prior learning evaluates your previous study or work experience related to your chosen subjects.
