Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Policy is tailored for individuals seeking to specialise in fisheries policy, management, or representation within the fisheries sector. This program equips professionals, including fisheries policy officers, junior managers, and government enforcement officers, with a career-relevant qualification. It will also enable industry and non-government organisation representatives to gain a recognised policy qualification.

This degree provides a broad understanding of the international legal and policy framework within which fisheries resources are managed, conserved and developed. It also examines the principles of fisheries management, including aspects relating to science, economics and law and how these are used in decision-making. It emphasises the need for sustainable policies and adhering to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

See the course handbook for more information.

One of the benefits for students of the Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Policy is the close links that UOW’s Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) has established with a range of government agencies, international businesses and non-governmental organisations in Australia, the Indo-Pacific region and globally, including a long-term relationship with the Royal Australian Navy.
