Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Trauma and Recovery Practice will respond to issues that have particular relevance in Australian Indigenous communities. It is a multi-disciplinary program where students will apply critical thinking, collaborative practices and judgement when working individually and with individuals who have experienced trauma. Most importantly the course will focus on applying Indigenous social, and emotional wellbeing principles, practices and healing frameworks.

Utilising Aboriginal and western concepts of trauma, this course focuses on the contributing factors to experiences of trauma, considering the historical, cumulative impact of trauma and current day experiences. This degree focuses on the impacts of racism and other factors that can have major health implications on Indigenous Australians.

This course is only available full-time and is a self-paced, fully online course.

Designed, developed and delivered by Aboriginal academic and health delivery experts in collaboration with local Aboriginal elders, this unique course is designed to respond to issues that have particular relevance in indigenous communities in Australia.

On completion of this 20-week course you will be able to:

  • work from a trauma-informed practice
  • apply critical thinking, collaborate practices and insights to effectively work with trauma-exposed individuals and communities
  • apply Indigenous social, and emotional wellbeing principles, practices and healing frameworks
  • understand and identify factors that contribute to experiences of trauma
