Overview

The Master of Engineering Management is a professional degree for engineers who see their careers progressing into management—including senior management positions. The degree provides a strong grounding in modern management thinking, applicable to engineering industries.

The degree is offered in conjunction with our Sydney Business School, UOW to ensure the most modern management thinking accompanies the professional, technical and environmental aspects of engineering projects.

You will complete the following five core subjects in engineering logistics, engineering, project management, modelling of engineering management systems, strategic management for engineers and technologists, and financial management for engineered assets.

You can then choose further elective subjects from the engineering management elective list. You will be able to work in teams and with managers from other disciplines, including finance, human resources and management.

Students may also choose the asset management specialisation. This major is directed at the thoughtful application of relevant theory, international standards, and best practice to equip asset managers to make rational decisions in an increasingly uncertain world.

In addition to the core subjects, you will study life cycle and risk management, systems reliability engineering, and maintenance requirement analysis, plus one elective.

See the course handbook for more information.

Fee subsidised places available

UOW is offering Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) for all of our postgraduate coursework degrees in 2025. This means the Australian government will subsidise your tuition fees by up to 75%. Asset Management (specialisation)

In the asset management major, you will be equipped to manage decisions that affect the life cycle cost and performance of a company’s highly valued assets with competency and transparency.

This specialisation ensures continuous improvement in the strategic and tactical response of organisations, and their managers, to the management of infrastructure assets.

From a strategic framework, you progressively address problems in designing and managing assets. This is achieved through a balanced program of subjects in asset management, science, and engineering, with an emphasis on practical applications. You will also learn concepts and techniques by evaluating potential solutions to challenges faced by organisations.
