School of Social Sciences

We are a dynamic, interdisciplinary community of social science scholars of national and international standing who passionately strive to create a positive impact in our communities. We offer a wide range of opportunities for research and study in criminology, geography, public health, social policy, social work, sustainability and occupational health and safety.

Our students learn to analyse and solve real-world social and health problems through engaging with leading researchers, communities and practitioners on campus, online and in workplaces.

Our staff work with policy-makers, practitioners, key stakeholders and the public to co-produce, collaborate and communicate evidence that has a positive and tangible impact on our society.

Our school includes three established research centres;

  • ACCESS identifies and addresses complex challenges in environments, cities, and communities - exploring innovative solutions and empowering communities to shape a sustainable future.
  • ACHEEV, which focuses on the connection between the health of people, other animals, society and the planet, and
  • COPERSH, which addresses current and future risks to occupational, public and environmental health and safety.

Various staff from across the school are also research members within Early Start.
