Casual parking

Casual parking

Casual parking is available across the campus and available for anyone to use, including students and visitors. There are different parking conditions and payment requirements at the Wollongong campus depending on the carpark.  Please ensure you observe signage within each carpark as penalties apply.  A Restricted Parking Area scheme applies to all University properties, and rules apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Casual parking options include:

  • Pay as you go (PAYG) ticketless parking through the CellOPark app
  • "Pay and Display" ticket parking
  • Short term parking stations

Casual parking using CellOPark

UOW has partnered with CellOPark to offer a digital payment method for casual parking at the Wollongong campus.  With CellOPark, you only pay for what you use and start and stop your parking in the app.

Ticket machines are still available in most carparks as an alternate payment option. You purchase a ticket for the duration you expect to be parked from the machine prior to parking.

If you use the ticket machines, you must ensure your ticket is displayed on the dashboard, correct side up. Incorrect placement may incur a fine if Parking Enforcement Officers cannot read the ticket to check the validity.

Casual parking is available 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) in:

  • P8 Carpark in signposted bays
  • P5 Carpark North in signposted bays (northern section across the bridge)
  • P4 Carpark
  • P3 Carpark in signposted bays

From 4pm to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), casual parking is available in:

  • P2 Carpark
  • P5 Carpark South (southern section, adjacent to Ring Road)

In these zones, a valid ticket or permit must be displayed, or you must have an active session with CellOPark. The University uses Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to confirm that a vehicle has a valid parking session or permit. Parking Enforcement Officers will also check if a valid ticket has been displayed.

It is critical that you enter your number plate correctly into the CellOPark app. If your vehicle registration number is incorrect it will not be recognised by UOW Security and you may be issued a parking fine.

How to park on Wollongong campus using CellOPark

When you park in a carpark where PAYG is valid, you will need to select the correct parking zone within the CellOPark app. Each ticket machine in a PAYG carpark has a sticker with a seven digit number.

Within the CellOPark app, to select the zone:

  • press the 'Scan QR' button in the app and scan the QR code located on signs, or
  • select University of Wollongong from the drop down menu, or
  • enter the seven digit zone number.

You can have up to two vehicles registered on your account, but you need to ensure you have selected the 'active' vehicle when parking.

Press 'press to start' when you are ready to start your parking session.

When you have finished your parking session, you need to press 'press to stop'.  With CellOPark, you only pay for what you use, as long as you stop your session as you leave.
