About the event
Associate Professor Deirdre McGhee, Co-founder and Director of the Breast Research Australia (BRA) will be presenting a comprehensive overview of her research on breast-related issues that limit females’ physical activity and athletic performance.
The online presentation will commence at 2.00 PM
Our researcher
Associate Professor Deirdre McGhee
Deirdre’s clinical background as a sports physiotherapist has enabled her to drive clinically focused research that addresses real-world, breast-related problems. Deirdre is passionate about women benefiting from her research and links with sporting, sports medicine, and community-based organisations to ensure her research outputs are integrated and translated.
Deirdre has a particular interest in the bra-related issues and physical recovery of women following breast cancer surgery and how they impact physical activity and the resumption of sport, work and daily tasks. She has translated her research into freely accessible, online community-based educational resources.
These include Physical Preparation and Recovery from Breast Reconstruction in collaboration with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), that guides women how to physically prepare for and self-manage the initial recovery from breast reconstruction surgery; “Exercise and breast support” in collaboration with Sports Medicine Australia; and the “Sports bra” which is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Sport and is used by women and athletes all over the world to guide their breast support and correct bra fit during physical activity and sport.
The session will run for 30 minutes including time for Q&A inviting the audience to engage with the researcher.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear about real-world, breast-related problems.
