If you’re planning to study at UOW immediately after finishing your HSC, International Baccalaureate (IB), or an interstate equivalent, you can apply for Early Admission to this course. Applications can be submitted via the UOW Early Admission website during the designated period, usually June – August each year.

Students can also apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

If you’re a non-school leaver (e.g., completed Year 12 previously and/or have a TAFE qualification or equivalent), you can apply directly to UOW.

Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Scholar) will equip you with the fundamentals of engineering, both technically and via communication skills. Faculty members who drive relevant and cutting-edge research will teach you how to apply this knowledge in real situations, preparing you to engineer the future.
 
Choose from a wide range of majors including architectural, biomedical, civil, computer and autonomous systems, electrical and electronics, environmental, materials, mechanical, mechatronic, mining, or telecommunications engineering and Internet of Things.

From second year, scholar students will also have the option to complete a double major. Combinations include civil and environmental, civil and mining, electrical and electronics and computer and autonomous systems, mechanical and materials, mechanical and mining, mining and environmental, mining and materials.
 
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Scholar) includes 12-weeks hands-on industry experience, either in Australia or overseas, as well as a range of industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering (major)

Electrical and electronics engineering focuses on devices and systems, computer systems, telecommunications, control and electrical power engineering. Electrical engineers play a vital role in renewable energy generation, heavy industry and manufacturing installations, robotics and automation, mining and electrical power distribution.

You will study specialist subjects in electricity generation and distribution (including renewable energy), electrical power quality, machines and drives, power electronics, control systems, and automation. You can also choose to specialise in any of the following sub-disciplines: control engineering, electronics engineering, and development of engineering systems, and power engineering.

Your major includes a 12-week hands-on industry experience, either in Australia or overseas, as well as a range of industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities. You can also focus on your chosen major or you can extend your university time and complete a double major, such as combining electrical and electronics engineering major with the computer and autonomous systems engineering major.

UOW's engineering programs are accredited by Engineers Australia and relevant world engineering bodies through the Washington Accord. This ensures recognition by equivalent professional engineering bodies in the USA, UK, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries.

This recognition ensures that graduates from this course are admitted, on application, to the grade of Graduate Membership of Engineers Australia.

  • Workload

    Full-Time Study Load

    As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work & placements.

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    This flexibly designed program provides exemption from some first year subjects for particularly high achieving students.

     

    If you have completed prior studies or relevant professional experience, you can request course credit or subject exemptions to reduce the duration and cost of your program.

    Credit for prior learning evaluates your previous study or work experience related to your chosen subjects.
